Same day access for under 5 year olds who are unwell

Your practice is part of the Woodsley and Holt Park Primary Care Network

The network have been working hard to make sure unwell under 5 year olds are seen on the same day amongst our practices.

However, many childhood infections can be managed at home. There are many infections affecting children, which are more common in the colder months but can happen all year round.

Fortunately, most of these are mild viral infections and last no more than 2-3 weeks, requiring over the counter pain relief and plenty of fluids.

The following link can help you manage their symptoms confidently and guide you as to when to seek help from a healthcare professional.

Use the ‘red, amber, green traffic light tool’ below to help you decide how to care for your child age 0 – 5 years when concerned that they are unwell, but if you are worried about your child’s health, don’t hesitate to contact a professional for expert advice.

Children can now get treatment for some common conditions directly from their local pharmacy, without the need for a GP appointment or prescription including some childhood infections:
